Philosophy
We all know that life has its share of pain and joy. Painful experiences often cause us to stumble while times of joy give our lives meaning and satisfaction. Navigating life's challenges in our complex, fast-paced world is difficult -- anxiety, depression, and stress can leave us feeling defeated and confused.
Of course all of us want meaningful relationships, a healthy self-esteem, satisfying and purposeful work, and the skills to manage transitions and difficult emotional experiences. This is a tall order for many who take pride in being independent and self-sufficient. Psychotherapy provides the opportunity to talk about and explore new ways of meeting life's challenges; Integrating the diverse threads of our life is often a major focus in therapy.
Sometimes painful childhood experiences emerge in the present in disruptive ways. Career demands can eclipse everything lead to deep dissatisfaction. Relationship problems lead to loneliness and frustration. Or, existential questions about life's meaning and purpose may emerge at any stage of life pushing us to reexamine who we are. This is not something most people can do alone. Therapy provides confidentiality, acceptance and non-judgment from a professional trained in helping people with their emotional and psychological life. The process can lead to greater life satisfaction and interior freedom, increased confidence and purpose, and better skills for handling problems.
Clinical Orientation
I am a psychodynamically trained psychotherapist and incorporate a wide range of methods with clients. The work can be short or long-term depending on the needs of the client. I work in a collaborative and interactive style. I actively support and integrate the spiritual, religious beliefs and values of each person when this is desired.
